Looking to form/join a hobbyist VN group.
Sep 4th
As people who know me are aware, my educational background is in computer science. However, my day job does not actually involve writing code, so I am looking for avenues to make use of this background before my skills become too rusty. Since I don’t have the free time or capital to start screwing around with the Unreal engine, I began think that creating a Visual Novel might be a more realistic goal.
For the past several months, I have been experimenting with the capabilities of the Ren’Py visual novel engine, while brainstorming ideas for games. I have also spent some time developing functionality way outside the intended scope of the engine (a way to update Twitter from within a Ren’Py game) as well, so I’ve found it to be extremely versatile and powerful.
During this time, I’ve managed to come up with several ideas for VNs, a few of which I feel are fairly well laid out and might make interesting games. That is, they would if I could create art and music to back up my stories and programming. Unfortunately, writing and being able to code are only small pieces of the puzzle. Truth be told, I am not a very good artist. Some people who have seen my doodles think that I can draw OK, but I can say with certainty that I will never be as adept at art as I am at coding. As such, it will likely be very difficult for me to see any of my own ideas to completion. After much deliberation, I have decided to seek out other hobbyists who possess the skills I lack and form an alliance of Hobbyists. A doujin-soft circle, if you will.
Those that visit this blog already know my tastes in games. If you think that you might share my general interests in game genres, and are perhaps looking for a writer / coder to team up with, I have made a post on the official Ren’Py forums here:
Disclaimer: I am not playing SC2 right now.
Aug 1st
For everyone asking, I am not playing Star Craft 2 like the rest of the known universe. I got my fill of Battle.net idiots during beta, and I don’t think I’d play it enough to justify spending $60 on it. It is a great game, but I’m not much of an RTS person at the end of the day. Maybe when it is on sale, or when they release a Battle Chest with inevitable the expansions….
Protoss are still awesome, though.

My CAPCOM VS. NAMCO Wishlist!
Jul 21st
Rumors are currently flying that Namco vs. Capcom is in development. Like many fans, I have certain non-fighting game characters that I would love to see in it. It is already likely that we’d see most of the cast of Street Fighter, Tekken, and Soul Calibur in the game already, but what about less-than-obvious series?
Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia)
Not only is Yuri one of the most bad ass Tales heroes ever, but most of his moves are very up-close and personal, as well as extremely chainable. Players could pull of some impressive combos with Yuri, which is also another plus for fighting game fanatics. His HI-OUGI would probably also translate fairly well into a “super move,” since it was mainly based on the use of his sword. While I feel that a good number of Tales characters would actually work well in the fighting game arena, Yuri seems that he’d fit in the most. Of course, wouldn’t mind seeing other Tales characters such as Lloyd Irving, Kratos Aurion, or Rita Mordio (blah blah blah).
Phoenix Wright
After hearing he had been scrapped from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, I have always hoped that one day we’d see everyone’s favorite Ace Attorney in a future Versus title. While he doesn’t seem like he’d be a strong fighter, his finger pointing and “Objection!” special moves would be absolutely hilarious. It’d also be awesome to see Phoenix’s rival, Miles Edgeworth, make an appearance along with him.
Pac-Man
What better Namco character than the one who started it all? I’m sure that they could find some creative ways to make him work inside a fighting game. Though I have no clue how they’d do it, myself.
